Tips to Search Google Like a Pro-1
If you want to search Google like a pro, you need to learn Google search operators first to get the best results in the shortest time.
Google is used by millions of people per second for different purposes. Students use it to find school-related information, for research and for academic works, some use it for business purposes, and many others use Google search engine for fun and entertainment.
In our previous blog posts, we introduced you with different search engines, including Google, as one of the most popular search engines worldwide, that possesses an 88.37 percent share of the United States’ search market in 2019.
When you search for something on Google, you write everything that comes to your mind and Google does not leave you empty-handed and gives you as many results as possible with your respective search.
In this blog post, we will teach you some important tips to help you use Google search more efficiently and easily and to get better and quicker results.
Here are Google search tips and tricks to maximize your search efficiency:
1. Use Tabs
On the top of every search results page, you can find a number of tabs, like “Web, Image, News, Maps and More”, to refine your search by category. Using these tabs, you can help define what kind of search you need to do.
2. Quotation Marks (” “)
To find the exact wording, search a phrase in quotes. You will find only pages with the same words in the same order as what’s in the quotes.
3. Dash (-)
When you want to search for a phrase but want to exclude one or more items from the results, you can then insert the dash mark right before the phrase that you want to exclude.
Example: jobs ‑apple
When you want to search for jobs, insert the dash mark right before “apple” to exclude results related to the Apple Company.
4. Colon (:)
If you need to look for content on a certain website, put a colon (:) after the word site, then write your specified domain as the shortcut you can use, in this way Google will give you only the pages indexed within your specified domain.
Example: Ford Mustang site:nhl.com
5. OR
Sometimes the details of the topic we are trying to look for are incomplete or not remembered, but this is not a problem. It is enough to use (OR) or (|) between two words or phrases, and Google will provide us with results related to either or both terms. By doing so, you will see that Google search results will be closer to what you expect.
Examples: Grilled Shrimp OR Scallops/ Business | pleasure
6. Asterisk Wildcard (*)
To find a missing word in a phrase, google it with an asterisk in place of the missing word as a substitute. If you have forgotten more than one word, use as many asterisks in a search phrase as you’d like.
Example:
a funny * happened on the * to the *
7. Filetype
There are instances when you need to limit the results of your search to a specific file type, like PDF, DOCX, TXT, PPT, to research and download specific content.
