Dr. Konrad Gunesch, American University in the Emirates

Dr. Konrad Gunesch is an Associate Professor of International Education and Linguistics in the College of Media and Mass Communication at the American University in the Emirates in Dubai. Previously, he was a Professor for Global Business at the Latin American University of Science and Technology in Panama and held Research Associateships and Assistantships at the Universities of Hong Kong, London, and Bath in the United Kingdom. Outside of academia, he has worked in Law as well as in Business and Commerce in Germany, Sweden, and Canada.

Dr. Konrad’s research focus is on International Education, Intercultural Communication, International Relations, Global Business, Worldwide Tourism, Public International Law, Sustainable Energy, as well as Environment and Climate Change. He has taught 50 different subjects in these areas, published over 40 research articles in peer-reviewed books and journals, given over 50 international conference presentations, among them over 10 keynote speeches, and chaired or moderated over 10 conferences, on 6 continents and in altogether 14 languages.

His conference presentation compares the tourism management and planning strategies and realizations of the world cities Dubai and Hong Kong, for their current achievements and long-term aspirations. Especially relevant for the NCM conference location Dubai, it relates a Middle Eastern and a Far Eastern metropolis and reasons for their significance for the region and the world. It also applies his transdisciplinary and multicultural training to connect management and business with ecology, culture, and tourism. His interactive presentations involve the audience as creative contributors in the journey of understanding and furthering knowledge, stimulating discussion during and afterward, also to inspire participants’ own research ideas.
