Prof. Luigi Guiso:
ICNDBM is Great Opportunity to Discuss New Challenges Posed by Markets’ Integration
As its very prestigious conference in the field of economics, finance and management, Canadian Institute for Knowledge Development (CIKD) is holding the 4th edition of International Conference on New Directions in Business Management Finance and Economics (ICNDBM) in Istanbul Aydin University, Turkey, on February 12, 2020.
The conference will host three prominent professors in the field of Economics, Finance, and Econometrics, Luigi Guiso, Ilhan Ozturk, and Luis Alberiko Gil-Alaña.
CIKD’s marketing department has conducted an interview with them, on a different range of issues. Here you can read Luigi Guiso’s comments and ideas.
Guiso evaluated ICNDBM conference as one of the most important events in the field of finance and management, saying “it brings together top-quality researchers from highly qualified institutions.”
Highlighting the importance of holding a conference on Economy today, Guiso noted that new challenges have been posed constantly by an upward trend in the integration of markets, and this attaches more importance on the holding of different events worldwide on the Economy and Finance, including ICNDBM, on a regular basis.
“Though international conferences have been held regularly, their value is instead diminishing, if anything growing,” he said, adding “this is because the upward trend in the integration of markets poses continuously new challenges and these conferences are a great opportunity to discuss them.”
On his experience of having and delivering a successful lecture to students, Guiso highlighted the importance of “direct involvement of students in the class content.”
He pointed out that last month he taught a class in household finance to a small group of highly qualified students in the January semester at New York University Abu Dhabi.
“It was a great experience whose content was very well received by the students,” he noted, adding “the key for success was the direct involvement of the students in the class contents. They had each time to introduce the topic that was then discussed in class.”
He also acknowledged the importance of current and new technological methods or information that can help him in his job, saying “the web is a great source of information and data.”
He also referred to wealth inequality and the extreme concentration of the wealth of a country in a few hands as one of the crucial and important scientific research questions that needed to be addressed by young scholars and researchers in the current situation.
“In the 1960s inequality in income prompted a massive amount of research on the role of education in explaining labour market compensations,” he explained, adding “today we should try to understand what drives differences in return for wealth.”
He attached great importance on the quality of the keynote speakers as one of the most important factors for an organizer to attract the audience and help the conference guarantee its popularity in general and at its next editions.
